Testing Information for 2020-21

Greetings from South Redford! The State of Michigan passed legislation requiring testing for the 2020-2021 school year. We are putting forth our best effort to make this manageable for students and families. Your child will be taking the NWEA MAP tests in reading and math in the next few weeks. Please watch for a schedule from your child’s teacher. Below are steps for you to take to prepare for the tests. What is NWEA MAP? NWEA MAP helps teachers understand what students know today, so goals can be set to improve growth throughout the year. Students cannot pass or fail this test. This test will not affect grades. In fact, it’s normal for students to only answer about half the questions correctly due to the nature of the test. Please don’t help them! Given the challenges of learning from home, MAP test results are especially helpful for us this year. These results will help us know what students are ready to learn. Test Preparation - Prior to Test Day Make sure your device meets testing requirements: Go to check.nwea.org After a few seconds you should see the banner at the top change from “Loading...Please wait” to a green check or red X Contact the school to talk to the media tech if you get a red X Check if your child wants to use headphones (if you have them): Grades K-5 Math Test [Optional] - your child may want them to reduce noise or hear the text-to-speech on the math test Grades 4-5 Reading [Optional] - your child may want them to reduce noise Test Preparation - On Test Day Provide a quiet testing environment with no TV; if there is excessive noise, we will have to reschedule the test Minimize distractions for your child as much as possible Wait for directions from the teacher Do not to help your child with answers, reading words, or giving definitions Communicate tech issues with the teacher via Zoom chat
